Welcome to
Cookham Dig24
Below is a range of artworks developed during Cookham Dig24. I created artwork and led creative workshops onsite amongst the archaeologists as they continued to excavate Cookham Abbey for 6 weeks during the summer.
(The Dig24 page is still being assembled from the wide range of artworks and events that took place this summer. Further artworks and will be added to soon! )
Trench 1 the many different colours of earth reveal the archaeology, providing evidence of pits, post holes and water channels. Significant finds, including a turned wooden bowl, were discovered at the bottom of the well, which was lined with a very large tree trunk.
Trench 2 is an Anglo Saxon Christian burial ground. There were further discoveries of burial cuts and human remains. These were carefully revealed and respectfully excavated.
