Welcome to

Cookham Dig24

I created artwork and led creative workshops onsite amongst the archaeologists as they continued to excavate Cookham Abbey for 6 weeks during the summer. All the artworks below were developed during Cookham Dig24.

Trench 1 the many different colours of earth reveal the archaeology, providing evidence of pits, post holes and water channels. Significant finds, including a turned wooden bowl, were discovered submerged in water at the bottom of the well, which was lined with a very large tree trunk.

Trench 2 is an Anglo Saxon Christian burial ground. There were further discoveries of burial cuts and human remains. These were carefully revealed and respectfully excavated.
